Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (Reviewable Copy) [Localization Prototype]
Sony PlayStation
After more than a year since my first reviewable disc purchase, another "Reviewable Copy" disc of "Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure" with a promotional soundtrack included appears on the Ebay stage on June 18, 2022 for sale. Unlike the previous disc, the front cover now has a printed paper label with an earlier logo that I've never seen before! Unfortunately, $800.00 as the starting price was WAY too high for me to afford. For now, all I could do was wait and hopefully the price eventually lowers to a reasonable price.
With more than a year since the listing went live, the price DID finally decrease to $230.00. The wait was finally over and the perfect opportunity was without a doubt right here. On October 2nd, 2023, despite the $20.00 shipping and tax charges, both discs were finally mine!
Promotional Copy CD Soundtrack
Days later, both the reviewable disc and promotional soundtrack arrived via USPS safely. Going through the Promotional soundtrack CD first, there are some earlier track names for both "Let's Go On (Contest)" and "Let's Go On (Cherie)" shown here:
There are some errors on the front cover of the disc's tracklist as well, such as "Let's Go On (Contest)" being listed twice and "Evil Queen" going missing. Despite this, the aforementioned track is still on the disc.
Everything from the disc audio wise matches the retail original soundtrack. An extremely rare promotional copy CD is now in my Rhapsody / Marl Kingdom collection! This is amazing!
Reviewable Copy
Next was checking out the reviewable copy and see what was in store for me. Upon starting up the game and looking at the Rhapsody title screen for a brief moment, I've already had high expections that this reviewable copy was just another retail copy. Oh my! Was I in for a big surprise...
Behold, ladies and gentlemen! A localization prototype of Rhapsody is now in my possession!
Happy, happy, joy, joy!
After playing for a couple of hours, This localization prototype has a lot of interesting stuff so far. There were originally more pop culture references and crude humor in the localized translation before Atlus decided to clean up and change some of the dialogue. Here are a few examples:
The localization prototype has been dumped and is available to download at Archive.org.
Until next time...

After playing for a couple of hours, This localization prototype has a lot of interesting stuff so far. There were originally more pop culture references and crude humor in the localized translation before Atlus decided to clean up and change some of the dialogue. Here are a few examples:
- "What a girl wants, what a girl needs..." was a reference to a popular hit by Christina Aguilera back in 1999. This spoken line from Kururu was omitted in the retail version.
- The line "Happy, happy, joy, joy!" was a reference to the song from the show "Ren and Stimpy". "Happy, happy." was kept, while "Joy, joy!" was cut.
- "I'm gonna bust out the people's elbow..." was a reference to a finishing move from WWE Superstar / actor 'Dwayne 'The Rock" Johnson. Myao's line was changed to "I'm gonna beat you up!"
- Kururu's dialogue: "Well standing around with our thumbs up our butts won't do us any good." was changed to "well standing around won't do us any good."
- Lastly, Cornet's "bleeped" profanity from the Japanese version were originally going to be brought in to the English version. This was changed to presumably keep the "Everyone" rating.
